UNITED NATIONS (Kashmir English): Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar, has emphasized that an immediate ceasefire in Iran is essential to prevent the loss of human lives and maintain peace and stability in the region.
Addressing the United Nations Security Council meeting, Asim Iftikhar stated that the recent military attack was carried out at a time when diplomatic efforts regarding Iran were ongoing, adding it affects peace and security not only in Iran but throughout the Middle East.
He clarified that military actions harm the negotiation process and escalate tensions in the region, which could lead to serious consequences.
Martyrdom of Iranian students
The Pakistani representative expressed deep sorrow over the martyrdom of Iranian students and citizens and said that an immediate ceasefire is indispensable to prevent the loss of human lives.
He stressed that stability in the region is only possible when all parties resolve issues through dialogue and negotiations instead of violence.
Asim Iftikhar also condemned recent attacks on other countries in the region besides Iran, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates.
He praised Oman’s mediation efforts between the US and Iran and said that resolving conflicts through mediation and diplomacy is indispensable for regional peace.
Pakistan clarified its stance that diplomatic solutions are preferred over violence in the region, and the protection of human lives is the top priority.
Asim Iftikhar further added that the international community should also play a role in this matter to de-escalate tensions in Iran and other countries in the region and establish lasting peace.
