SRINAGAR (Kashmir English): The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has said that the BJP-led Indian government under Narendra Modi has deprived Kashmiris of all basic rights, forcing them to endure extreme hardship in their own homeland.
According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesperson Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas, in a statement in Srinagar, said that the Indian government is rapidly pushing its malicious agenda in Kashmir, aiming to seize everything from Kashmiris, including their homes, lands, and other properties.
He added that the BJP government has completely stripped the people of the occupied territory of their right to freedom of expression.
Anyone who dares to speak against Indian oppression is immediately imprisoned under draconian laws such as the Public Safety Act (PSA) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Revocation of Kashmir’s special status
Advocate Minhas further said that the revocation of IIOJK’s special status in August 2019 was intended to make Kashmiris strangers in their own land.
He said the entire occupied territory now resembles a military cantonment, where the killing of innocent youth, arbitrary arrests, seizure of property, and other acts of repression by Indian forces have become routine.
He warned that the BJP government’s ultimate goal is to reduce the Muslim majority in the territory to a minority.
The APHC spokesperson emphasised that Jammu and Kashmir is a UN-recognized disputed territory and that Kashmiris continue to demand their UN-recognized right to self-determination.
He called on the global community to take notice of India’s intransigence and play its role in resolving the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN resolutions.
The APHC also urged Kashmiris to further strengthen unity and solidarity within their ranks to resist Indian conspiracies aimed at undermining the freedom movement.
