WASHINGTON (Kashmir English): Former Sri Lankan international Shehan Jayasuriya is all set to make his debut for the United States after being named in the 15-man squad for T20 World Cup starting February 7.

The 34-year-old all-rounder, who previously represented Sri Lanka in 12 ODIs and 18 T20Is—including a stint in the 2016 T20 World Cup—retired from Sri Lankan cricket in 2021.

After relocating to the U.S., the left-handed batter and off-spinner became a staple in the American domestic circuit, featuring prominently in Major League Cricket (MLC).

Jayasuriya is not the only fresh face in the Monank Patel-led side. Pakistan-born Mohammad Mohsin is also in line for his international debut for the US, while the squad includes Shubham Ranjane, the grandson of former Indian cricketer Vasant Ranjane.

Coming off a historic “Super Eight” finish during their home tournament in 2024, the United States enter this edition with high expectations.

They are slated to open their Group A campaign on February 7 against defending champions India, who are co-hosting the mega event alongside Sri Lanka.
