CHINARI (Kashmir English): A young man, a resident of Kalli Gabbar village, Union Council Gujjar Bandi, Jhelum Valley district, Azad Kashmir, who mysteriously disappeared from Taxila on January 7, was found dead with injuries by Taxila police near Kala Pul.

The police is busy in ascertaining whether the death was a murder, abduction, suicide, or accident? After the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the heirs, and after funeral prayers in his ancestral village, he was laid to rest.

According to details, 20-year-old Asim Rasheed, son of Abdul Rasheed, a resident of Kalli Gabbar, a village adjacent to Chinari, went to Taxila on January 7 for work, where he was supposed to stay with a cousin that night, but he did not reach him.

After that, his family started searching for him. In addition to informing the local police, a post regarding this was also shared on social media.

Yesterday, Asim Rasheed’s body was recovered by the police from beneath the Kala Pul in Taxila. After a post-mortem at the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, the body was handed over to the heirs.

When the body reached the young man’s ancestral village on the night of Saturday and Sunday, every eye was tearful, and the atmosphere of the area was plunged into mourning over the death.

The deceased’s brother, Amir Rasheed, told journalists over the phone that when his brother went missing, he went to Taxila police station to file a report, where the police sent him back, saying that they should file the report at Chinari police station.

“We told the police that my brother went missing from Taxila, not Chinari, but they still refused to listen to us and sent us back. The next day, we went to the DSP’s office. He also kept our application instead of marking it and sending it to the police station.”

He said had the police acted promptly, his brother’s life could have been saved.

According to Amir Rasheed’s statement, his brother Asim Rasheed reached Taxila on the night of January 7. At 7:23 PM, he called his cousin Hamza Shafiq and told him that he was at Taxila Chowk. After that, his brother’s phone was switched off, and there was no contact. “It is suspected that my brother was abducted for unknown reasons. After my brother’s body was found, Taxila police station registered a report on January 10.”

He appealed to the Chief Minister Punjab, the Chief Secretary, and the IG Punjab to immediately take notice of the incident and order a high-level investigation so that the true facts of the death could come to light.

According to the police, a case has been registered at Taxila police station under Section 365 of the Pakistan Penal Code, and after the recovery of the body, the scope of the investigation has been further expanded.
