ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has warned costumers of fake calls, even from UAN numbers, and scammers feigning as FIA, and bank officials.
The authority has issued an awareness video for the customers in which it warned of the scammers pretending as the PTA, FIA and Bank officials.
PTA in its awareness message to the citizens said that no any government organisation, never ever ask for OTP, PIN, Identity Card number or biometrics.
Alert against scammers
The PTA urged the costumers to be highly alert and get verification only through the government channels.
Earlier, the authority had urged the costumers to be responsible using SIMs, saying they must use SIMs only issued in their names as using the SIMs issued on someone other’s ID is violation of the code.
The PTA has stressed that the onus of illegal use of SIMs will be on registered costumers adding the citizens must ensure responsible use of SIMs and mobile connections.
As per the PTA statement, registered costumers will be responsible for dialed calls, messages and use of data.
On January 7, the PTA in its move beneficial to public, approved a new Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNO) Policy Framework that will allow more mobile service providers to enter Pakistan’s telecom market.
Companies will be allowed to provide mobile services without building their own mobile networks under the new Mobile Virtual Network Operators.
Instead, these companies will use the already existing networks of current mobile operators while selling services under their own brands.
This means users could see new mobile service brands in the market, even though they rely on the same underlying networks.
The move is expected to increase competition, offer more choices to costumers, and introduce new and customized mobile packages under different brand names. The Federal Cabinet approved the policy and the PTA formally issued the same.
It clearly defines an MVNO as a mobile service provider that does not own radio towers, spectrum, or core network infrastructure. Instead, it operates through agreements with licenced Mobile Network Operators (MNOs). The MVNO licence will be valid for 15 years, provided all PTA rules are followed.
