KOHAT (Kashmir English): A large oil and gas reserve has been discovered in the Nashpa block in Kohat district.
A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on the affairs of the Petroleum Division.
The meeting was briefed on the roadmap of the petroleum and gas sector.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that the discovery and development of the country’s energy resources are very important for national economic stability.
He also issued instructions to digitize the entire supply chain related to the import and local consumption of oil and gas on a priority basis.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister was informed that the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) had discovered significant Oil and gas reserves in the Nishpa block of Kohat district.
The briefing further informed that these new reserves are expected to yield about 4,100 barrels of oil per day.
The Prime Minister congratulated the nation on this major discovery and appreciated the performance of the relevant institutions.
In the meeting, the Prime Minister was briefed on the comprehensive roadmap prepared for the petroleum and gas sector.
The Prime Minister said that the digitization of the oil and gas supply chain would enable effective prevention of smuggling, which would directly benefit the national exchequer.
The high-level meeting was also informed that domestic consumers were facing an improvement in gas pressure in the current winter season compared to the previous year.
Officials said that work on RLNG connections is progressing rapidly, and a target has been set to provide 350,000 new connections by June 2026.
The meeting was further informed that the pipelines of the Shiva and Batani gas fields have been activated, while work is underway on the pipeline from Kot Palak gas field.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervez Malik and other senior government officials.
