Nation observes 18th death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto

LARKANA (Kashmir English): The 18th death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto is being observed with great devotion and respect across Pakistan.

A large number of PPP workers from across the country are reaching Garhi Khuda Bakhsh, where reception camps have been set up at various places.

First Lady Aseefa Bhutto visited Benazir Bhutto’s mausoleum along with Faryal Talpur and also laid flowers on the graves of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Murtaza Bhutto, and Shah Nawaz Bhutto.

General Secretary PPP Sindh Senator Waqar Mehdi and other leaders and activists also visited the graves of Benazir Bhutto and other personalities of the Bhutto family.

The Sindh government has declared a public holiday on the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.

Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir Faisal Mumtaz Rathore also declared a public holiday in Azad Kashmir today on the death anniversary of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.

Benazir Bhutto’s Life

Benazir Bhutto was given the title of Daughter of the East, who also has the honor of being the first female Prime Minister of the Islamic world, and was also the Prime Minister of Pakistan twice.

Benazir Bhutto is described by political observers as the leader facing the toughest challenges in Pakistan, and also among the political figures of South Asia who have been recognized internationally.

Benazir Bhutto was born on June 21, 1953, in Karachi. She received her primary education from the Convent of Jesus and Mary Grammar School.

Bibi received higher education in political science and international law from Oxford.

According to observers, the founder of the People’s Party, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, had declared Benazir Bhutto as his political successor instead of his two sons.

When Zia-ul-Haq imposed martial law in the country, Benazir Bhutto continued to struggle for democracy abroad.

When she returned to Pakistan in April 1986, she was given an unprecedented welcome by the people.

After the victory of the PPP in the 1988 elections, Benazir Bhutto became the first female prime minister in the Muslim world, but her government was dissolved 18 months later.

In November 1993, Benazir Bhutto was elected prime minister of the country for the second time, but in 1996, the PPP-nominated president dissolved the government.

After alleged reprisals, Benazir Bhutto went into exile, then in 2007 she announced her return to Pakistan.

On December 27, 2007, she was fatally attacked while returning from a rally in Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi.

Benazir Bhutto was laid to rest at Garhi Khuda Bakhsh in Larkana, next to her father Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and brothers Murtaza Bhutto and Shahnawaz Bhutto.
