MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Azad Kashmir Finance Minister Abdul Majid Khan has said that the attempt to abolish the 12 assembly seats of the refugees residing in Pakistan is actually tantamount to abolishing the “geographical concept and constitutional identity” of the state.
He made these remarks while addressing an emergency press conference along with AJK Food Minister Chaudhry Akbar Ibrahim at the Central Press Club in Muzaffarabad, where both leaders announced their resignations from the government.
Resigning from the office, the ministers said that they cannot remain part of an anti-people and unconstitutional government.
Abdul Majid further said that he would announce his future political strategy after consultations, but reaffirmed his stance on state unity, constitutional supremacy, and protection of refugee rights.
While talking to the reporters, both ministers leveled serious political, constitutional, and administrative allegations against Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq.
Opposing the plan to abolish the refugee seats from the assembly, Majid Khan stated that this move will weaken the international position on the Kashmir issue and strengthen India’s narrative.
The two ministers declared that they could “no longer be part of an anti-people and unconstitutional government.”
They alleged that the current government has robbed the constitutional rights of refugees residing in Pakistan, and accused the government of promoting hatred and division.
In his address, Abdul Majid said that for the past year, a dangerous narrative had been spread within the state, aiming to create a rift between refugees residing in Pakistan and local citizens.
آزاد کشمیر میں مہاجر اور انصار کے نام پر نفرت انگیز بیانیہ پھیلایا گیا۔۔!

He said refugees were being targeted on social media and branded as traitors, which he described as a “direct attack on the unity of Azad Kashmir.”
Presenting financial records, the finance minister alleged massive misuse of development funds, claiming that the government received Rs 1.65 trillion from Pakistan after the 2005 earthquake, including Rs 340 billion for development projects.
“But schools remain incomplete, roads broken, and hospitals without medicines,” he added, accusing the government of buying political loyalties instead of serving the refugee communities.
He also criticized what he called an illegal agreement with an unregistered organization, saying it was against both the Constitution and the laws of Azad Kashmir.
The minister further added that negotiations were held with an unregistered organization that neither has representation nor legitimacy. This is a conspiracy to paralyze the state system,” he asserted.

“The government is going to change the history of Azad Kashmir,” he asserted.
Drawing parallels with international examples, he said, “Countries like France, Italy, Portugal, and Algeria give representation to their citizens abroad; the same principle applies to Azad Kashmir and must be preserved.”
In a direct criticism of the Prime Minister, he said, “Chaudhry Anwarul Haq divided state institutions, politicized the bureaucracy, and neglected public welfare projects.”
The Finance Minister added that the electricity, flour, health, and education sectors were on the verge of collapse, with rising prices, shortages, and poor infrastructure pushing citizens to despair.
