ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Ali Amin Gandapur on Wednesday resigned as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister after the directive from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan.
Earlier, party secretary general Salman Akram Raja confirmed the reports circulating in the media regarding Gandapur’s removal, adding that it was Imran’s decision.
Following the confirmation from the party, Gandapur also issued a statement, resigning from office and extending full support to his party.
“The position of Chief Minister was a trust [amanat] of Imran Khan Sahib, and as per his order, I am returning his trust [amanat] to him and resigning,” he said.
He added that Sohail Afridi, who is the nominee for the next chief minister of KP, will have his full support and backing. “We will move forward together for the release of the founder of PTI and the party policy.”
Addressing a press conference a short while ago, Salman Akram Raja told the media, “Sohail Afridi will be the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in place of Ali Amin Gandapur”.
