The water level of the Sutlej River has been continuously increasing after India let out water in the river, officials announced on Wednesday.
The neighboring nation yesterday released water in the Sutlej River, leading to medium flood at Ganda Singh Wala headworks, the Flood Forecasting Division (FFD) reported yesterday.
The inflow of water in the Sutlej has increased to 1,15,000 cusecs at Ganda Singh Wala after letting out water in the river from the upstream, FFD reported.
The level of water was marked 28,000 cusecs in the river at the headworks before the release of water from India.
Some villages upstream and downstream of the river have been inundated by the floodwater water and the land connectivity of 15 villages has been blocked.
Director General PDMA Punjab stated a week ago that the province might get more rainfall besides the probable release of water into rivers from India.
Speaking to the media in Lahore, he stated that flooding in the catchment area of rivers is imminent.
He added that India could release additional water into the Sutlej and Chenab rivers. The next country could also release approximately 35,000 cusecs of water into the Ravi River, he warned.
Historic heavy monsoon rains this year and water releases in the Sutlej, Chenab, and Ravi rivers from India devastated Pakistan’s Punjab province, resulting in extensive loss of life and property in the province due to the floodwater.
