ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The death toll from this year’s floods and rain in the country has climbed to 910, according to a National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) report.
The report said that three more people lost their lives between Sept 8-9. Two of the deceased were from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Malakand and Buner, and one from Punjab’s Mandi Bahauddin.
Since June 26, a total of 910 fatalities and 1,044 injuries have been reported across the country.
Out of 910 deaths, 442 resulted from flooding, 252 from collapsed structures, and 65 from drowning.
According to the NDMA, 25 people fell victim to landslides, 23 died from electric shocks, and 26 from lightning strikes.
The highest number of deaths was reported in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa with 504 lives lost, followed by Punjab where 234 fell victim the calamity.
In Sindh, 58 people died, while Balochistan reported 26 deaths. Gilgit-Baltistan reported 41, Azad Kashmir 38, and Islamabad 9 fatalities.
Injuries reported include 654 in Punjab, 218 in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and 78 in Sindh. Balochistan reported 5 injuries, Gilgit-Baltistan 52, Azad Kashmir 34, and Islamabad 3.
Floods also caused damage to infrastructure
According to the NDMA, so far, 7,850 houses were damaged by the rains and flooding. Of these, 1,945 were completely destroyed, while 5,905 sustained partial damage. The monsoon has also caused the death of 6,180 livestock.
Meanwhile, the NDMA warned that a rain-bearing system currently over the Indian states of Gujarat and Rajasthan may affect Sindh, Balochistan, and southern Punjab.
The NDMA said these rains could continue intermittently until September 10.
