MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): A shameful incident of mistreatment of patients has emerged at Abbas Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) in Muzaffarabad.
A staff nurse on duty in the labour room brutally slapped a patient suffering from severe pain during childbirth, leaving the patient and her family in deep shock and distress after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
In the video, the patient can be seen continuously appealing for medical assistance, but instead of helping, the nurse chose rudeness and violence.
This behaviour not only traumatized the woman patient but also instilled fear and distrust among other patients and their families.
Sources said during the Executive Director AIMS’s OPD visit, patients and their families were also pushed by the staff, while half a dozen employees accompanying the Executive Director spent the entire day gossiping instead of performing their duties.
Non-seriousness of hospital administration
This situation fully exposed the negligence and non-seriousness of the hospital administration.
Citizens and social circles have expressed strong anger and outrage over the incident, stating that humiliating patients instead of facilitating them is intolerable.
Public circles said that health institutions should be the centre of service, but lamented patients are being treated like animals there.
Family members and citizens representatives have demanded that the Government of Azad Kashmir and the Health Department conduct a transparent investigation into the incident, and that the responsible nurse and incompetent administration be severely punished, so that such inhumane behaviour is not repeated in the future.
