SIRINAGAR (Kashmir English): The recent heavy rains in the Indian illegally occupied Kashmir have broken a 50-year-old record of the heaviest rains and floods, causing severe destruction in the region.
According to the administration of Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the heavy rains of 360 mm have destroyed dams, rivers, and the infrastructure of the area. People have lost their homes, lands, livestock, and even their lives due to these torrential rains.
So far, 30 people have died due to rains and landslides, while the death toll in Jammu and Doda has reached 37.
Additionally, due to floods and heavy rains, mobile internet, broadband, and telephone services have been completely suspended in the valley, making it difficult for the residents to communicate in times of emergency.
Moreover, the water level in the Jhelum River and nearby water bodies has reached dangerous levelsand to make the situation even worse, the authorities have informed in advance that the rains are likely to continue for the next few days.
Keeping this view in mind, the authorities have announced a public holiday in all private and governmental institutions to safeguard the lives of children.
India’s northern regions of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab have also been affected by heavy rains. Several buildings collapsed and vehicles were swept away due to the overflowing rivers in Manali and Pathankot, threatening the lives of residents.
