CALIFORNIA (Kashmir English): WhatsApp is testing a new feature that will allow users to leave a voice message when their call is not answered.

Through this new feature, users will be able to leave instant voice messages after missed calls, similar to voicemail.

The update, reported by WABetaInfo, is currently available only to beta testers of the Meta-owned platform.

Currently, missed calls on WhatsApp simply show up as missed notifications, with users typically following up by sending a text or voice note manually.

The new feature would instead prompt callers with the option to record a message immediately after a call goes unanswered, in a way similar to traditional voicemail services.

The messaging platform has not announced when the feature will be available at a wider scale. However, testers can try it by joining WhatsApp’s beta programme via the Google Play Store.

Voice messages a popular function on WhatsApp

Voice messages remain a popular function on WhatsApp, with billions sent daily worldwide, despite a decline in the use of traditional voicemail.
