ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with three shepherds, Wasit Khan, Ansar, and Muhammad Khan, who saved 300 lives in the Ghizer district of Gilgit-Baltistan with timely measures.
While grazing goats in Ghizer, the three noticed a dangerous accumulation of water at a glacier located at a high altitude.
Aware of the risks, they immediately alerted their villages about the possibility of glacier lake outburst flood (GLOF). Thanks to their quick thinking, the residents of three villages were able to evacuate in time.
The Prime Minister paid tribute to the shepherds for saving human lives, declaring them “heroes of 240 million people” and announced a reward of Rs 2.5 million each.
The Prime Minister gave certificates of appreciation to them and hinted at a visit to Gilgit-Baltistan in a few days, and also announced that the affected village would be made a model village.
Talking to the shepherds, the Prime Minister said that by saving human lives, you have shown your spirit of service; people like you have the status of messiahs for the entire nation.
