KARACHI (Kashmir English): The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet in Karachi today to sight the Rabi-ul-Awwal moon.
The Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Moulana Abul-Khabir, will chair the meeting.
The central meeting of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will be held after Asr prayers at the Meteorological Department’s Met Office in Karachi, Gulistan-e-Jauhar Scheme 33.
Members of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Karachi, representatives of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Suparco Department, the Meteorological Department, and the Ministry of Science and Technology will participate in the meeting.
Moreover, zonal committee meetings will be held in Islamabad, Lahore, Quetta, Peshawar, and other areas, while Chairman Abul-Khabir will make the final announcement of the moon sighting.
SUPARCO Prediction
The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) has predicted the expected date for the moon sighting of Rabi-ul-Awwal 1447 AH.
A Suparco spokesperson said that the Rabi-ul-Awwal moon is expected to be seen on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 11:06 am. The age of the new moon will be approximately 32 hours and 13 minutes at sunset on August 24, the commission said.
Furthermore, the Suparco spokesperson said that in coastal areas, the time between sunset and moonset will be approximately 45 minutes.
The statement added, “If the weather is clear, there is a good chance of seeing the moon on the evening of August 24.”
According to Suparco, the first date of Rabi-ul-Awwal is likely to be August 25, 2025.
