ISLAMABAD (Kashmir (English): The federal government has decided to increase the token tax on vehicles in Islamabad, along with an increase in vehicle registration and transfer fees.

According to media reports, the federal cabinet has approved amendments to the West Pakistan Motor Vehicle Taxation Act 1958, which authorizes an increase in token tax for private, public service, and commercial vehicles.

The summary presented by the Ministry of Interior states that the current token tax and other related fees have not been changed since 2019, which is leading to low revenue collection.

According to this decision, it has also been recommended to equalize the token tax rates with those of provincial governments to create harmony in the tax system between the federation and the provinces.

The Ministry of Interior has further stated that the performance of Excise and Taxation (ETO) offices is being affected due to delays or non-increase in token tax and other related fees.
