MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): A man has been allegedly arrested on charges of spying for India and providing sensitive information to Indian intelligence agencies.

The accused has been handed over to the Muzaffarabad Police after the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) completed the initial investigation.

According to the FIR registered at Saddar Police Station in Muzaffarabad on July 23, Muhammad Ubaid Jahangir, a resident of the village in Khai Gula, allegedly shared the information to facilitate India during its recent attack on Pakistan, including Azad Kashmir, in May this year.

As the FIR, available with Kashmir Digital, Jahangir provided the Indian intelligence agency RAW with the GPS location of Bilal Masjid Nala Shuwai in Muzaffarabad through WhatsApp and received a significant amount of money in return.

He has been accused of providing sensitive information about important installations to Indian intelligence agencies.

According to the police, he was booked under Section 3/3A of the Official Secrets Act 1923 and Section 54 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Confirming the arrest of the accused, SHO Saddar Naveedul Hassan said that the case is being investigated by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD). The case was registered on the complaint of ASI Mushtaq Ahmed, in charge of the Field Investigation Unit of CTD Muzaffarabad.

Hassan said that Ubaid himself has been arrested, and his other accomplices have also been arrested, whose investigation is underway.

He stated that the FIR registered against the accused was kept secret until the completion of the initial investigation.

Locals claimed that the accused belongs to a banned militant organization, and his uncle, Shaukat, is a prominent leader of the same organization. It is being said that this family migrated from occupied Kashmir and settled here in Khai Gula.

It should be remembered that on the night between May 6 and 7, the Bilal Mosque in Muzaffarabad was targeted in an Indian cowardly attack, where two people, including the Imam of the mosque, were martyred.

India also carried out 23 other attacks on 6 locations in Pakistan, including Kashmir, in which 8 Pakistanis were martyred and 35 were injured.
