MIRPUR (Kashmir English): Students of colleges affiliated with Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST) staged a protest in Mirpur, blocking Allama Iqbal Road to press their demands.
The students alleged continuous discrimination against college students and demanded equal facilities as university students. They demanded that students of the affiliated colleges be given the opportunity of a summer and a special semester like university students.
Furthermore, students demanded that the results of college students and university students should be declared together.
During the protest, the Assistant Commissioner Mirpur held negotiations with the student delegation, and after the assurance from the University Registrar, the students ended the protest.
The university administration stated that the results of the colleges and the university will be released together. Notification for special semester registration will be issued in affiliated colleges, the university Registrar assured.
Furthermore, the Deputy Commissioner of Mirpur assured the students that the results will be released by July 3, and after that, an additional week will be given for registration.
“If there is no progress by July 3, a regular meeting will be called on July 4,” the DC said.
Student leaders warned that if the promises are not fulfilled, they will stage another protest.
