PESHAWAR (Kashmir English): An incident involving alleged misbehavior and obstruction of media coverage has surfaced during an event attended by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi at the Institute of Management Sciences (IMSciences) in Peshawar.
According to details, media representatives had been invited to cover the ceremony; however, a female journalist, Rani Andleeb, claimed she was prevented from performing her duties by security personnel.
Speaking about the incident, the reporter stated that she was initially stopped from covering the event inside the hall. She further alleged that she was later restricted from recording outside the venue as well.
According to her, the restrictions were imposed after she attempted to ask the Chief Minister a question regarding the situation in universities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The journalist expressed concern over the incident, questioning the state of press freedom and the space available for raising public-interest issues.
She said that if democratic values and youth empowerment are being promoted, such actions raise important questions about freedom of expression.
The incident has sparked concern within journalistic circles, with calls for clarity on the matter. However, no official statement or response has yet been issued by the provincial government or the Chief Minister’s office regarding the allegations.
