LONDON (Kashmir English): A conference on the Kashmir issue, titled the “Great Debate on Kashmir,” was held at the British Parliament, with prominent figures from the UK and abroad participating in the event.
The Jammu and Kashmir Self-Determination Movement International (JKSDMI) UK chairman, Raja Najabat Hussain, organised the conference, where attendees declared the issue to be the “nuclear flashpoint” of the world.
The conference featured keynote speeches from Lord Qurban Hussain, Lord Shafaq Muhammad, MP Naz Shah, and Dr. Afzal Khan. The speakers urged the UK and the international community to take notice of the human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
A special session on “Women and Youth” was organized during the conference, featuring MP Ms. Naz Shah, where the role of women and youth in the Kashmir struggle was discussed.
The session, held under the chairmanship of former Lord Mayor Manchester Counselor Yaseem Dar, was part of the efforts to raise awareness about the Kashmir issue and its impact on different segments of society.
The conference was attended by prominent guests, including former Lord Mayor of Manchester Councillor Yasmin Dar, Chairperson International Lobby for Kashmir, and Khalid Mahmood, former Member of Parliament. Other notable attendees included Councillor Javed Najmi and human rights leader Muzammil Ayub Thakur.
Lord Qurban Hussain and Lord Shafaq Muhammad expressed serious concern over the human rights situation in Kashmir, citing the killing of over 600,000 Kashmiris, thousands of women raped, and countless missing persons and unmarked graves.
They urged the UK to fulfill its moral responsibility and play a role in resolving the Kashmir issue.
The speakers emphasized the importance of the right to self-determination for the Kashmiri people, as promised by India in 1948 and 1949 through UN resolutions. They called on the UK to work with its allies to resolve the Kashmir issue, which poses a threat of nuclear war between India and Pakistan.
The speakers and attendees called for increased international attention to the Kashmir issue and urged the UK to play a proactive role in resolving the dispute.
They emphasized the need for the Kashmiri people to be granted their right to self-determination and for the international community to take notice of the human rights situation in Kashmir.
Senator Dr. Muhammad Humayun Mohmand expressed solidarity with the Kashmiri people in their struggle for self-determination.
He emphasized that the entire Pakistani nation stands by the Kashmiris and will continue its moral, political, and diplomatic efforts until the state of Jammu and Kashmir becomes independent.
Addressing the occasion, AJK Minister for Kashmir Freedom Movement, Imtiaz Naseem, said that the Azad Kashmir government has always played a full role in the Kashmir Freedom Movement as per its capabilities.
Under the leadership of the current Prime Minister, Chaudhry Anwarul Haq, the Hurriyat Conference was supported on every front.
“I came to the UK at the invitation of the Right to Self-Determination Movement, and I’m happy that councilors, mayors, lord mayors, and parliamentarians in different cities of the UK are highlighting the Kashmir issue,” Naseem stated.
The conference concluded with a call to action for the UK and the international community to address the Kashmir issue and grant the Kashmiri people their right to self-determination.
The event highlighted the importance of continued efforts to raise awareness about the Kashmir issue and its impact on regional peace and stability.
