Kashmiri-origin former British MP Khalid Mahmood appointed visiting professor at Birmingham University

ISLAMABAD/BIRMINGHAM (Kashmir English): Khalid Mahmood, of Kashmiri origin, who served as a Member of the British Parliament for 23 consecutive years, has joined Birmingham City University as a visiting professor.

Khalid Mahmood was elected as a Member of Parliament from Birmingham Perry Barr in 2001 and continued to be elected until 2024. In the 2024 election, he faced an upset defeat.

Khalid Mahmood of the Labour Party from Birmingham Perry Barr was defeated by independent candidate Barrister Ayub Khan by 507 votes after a tough contest. Khalid Mahmood was the most senior Muslim parliamentarian.

In his X account, Khalid Mahmood shared a picture with the Vice-Chancellor on the occasion of joining Birmingham City University as a visiting professor and wrote that joining Birmingham City University as a visiting professor is a proud moment because he is also a former student of the university.

Khalid Mahmood thanked Professor David MBA and assured cooperation for higher education at Birmingham City University.

It is worth noting that Khalid Mahmood belongs to the Ratta area of Dadial Tehsil, Mirpur District, Azad Kashmir.
