Medical emergency teams dispatched for snow-affected areas in AJK

MUZAFFARABAD: Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq has instructed the launch of a medical emergency response team to the snow-affected areas of Neelum Valley, Halmat.

The Medical Emergency response team consists of doctors from the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) and the Young Doctors Association (YDA) in collaboration with the Pakistan Army.

The transport service to Halmat is being provided by the Pakistan Army; the team has left by an army helicopter.

Commissioner Muzaffarabad Division, Masood-ur-Rehman; Additional Director General Health Dr Farooq Ahmed Awan, Additional Deputy Commissioner Imran Abbas Naqvi and Dr Wajid Ali Khan, President PMA Azad Kashmir, dispatched the medical team to Neelum early in the morning.

The seven-member medical team includes Dr Waqar Ashraf Butt, child specialist; Dr Arshad Raja, additional medical officer; Dr Sajid Ali Gorsi, Dr Tariq Abdullah, Dr Sadaf Sarfraz, Dr Rafia Karim and Dr Hina Munawar.

The Medical Emergency Response Team will set up a medical camp in Helmat for fifteen days. The medical teams have highly professional doctors. In the second phase, separate camps for Sharda, Phalwai and other areas will have teams dispatched.

Public Health Minister Dr Nisar Ansar Abdali is monitoring medical facilities in Neelum on a daily basis

Chief Secretary Azad Kashmir Khushal Khan and Secretary Public Health Brigadier Muhammad Farid Khan are supervising the medical camp. The people of Neelum region express gratitude to Prime Minister Azad Kashmir Chaudhry Anwarul Haq and the Pakistan Army for being a beacon of hope during the hard times.

Previously, on the 19th of January, 2025, a woman lost her life before being shifted to the hospital due to the intense snowfall blocking the roads. This was the second time a lady had died in the valley as a result of the lack of medical facilities and services in her area. She could not to be taken to the hospital since all of the valley’s roads were closed due to inclement weather.


PM AJK Chaudhry Anwarul Haq dispatched a special medical team to the snow-affected districts in recognition of the people’s struggles. The medical camps are being set up under the directicves of PM AJK with the cooperation of the Pakistan Army.

Commissioner Muzaffarabad states that PM AJK has directed the provision of all necessary facilities, including medical assistance, for the people in snow-affected areas. He also said that the PM is personally overseeing the relief efforts.

He also extended gratitude towards the volunteers who are participating in the medical emergency response.
