ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): In a major blow to Imran Khan-founded Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the Supreme Court’s Constitutional Bench has accepted the review petition against its verdict in the reserved seats case, declaring the July 12 decision null and void.
The 10-member bench, headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan, upheld the Peshawar High Court’s decision, declaring the former ruling party ineligible for reserved seats in the national and provincial assemblies.
Announcing the short ruling, Justice Aminuddin Khan said, “Justice Aminuddin Khan, Justice Mussarat Hilali, Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan, Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan, Justice Hashim Khan Kakar, Justice Aamir Farooq and Justice Ali Baqar Najafi all review petitions are allowed and impugn majority judgement dated July 12, 2024 is set aside as a consequence thereof civil appeals … filed by SIC are dismissed and judgement rendered by the PHC is restored.”
The Supreme Court’s Constitutional Bench has ruled that PTI is ineligible for reserved seats, nullifying a decision made on July 12.
The court accepted review petitions challenging the earlier decision to grant PTI reserved seats and directed the Election Commission to rehear the applications of 80 members.
The decision was reached with a 7-3 majority, approving the review petitions.
The majority included Justices Aminuddin Khan, Musarrat Hilali, Naeem Akhtar Afghan, Shahid Bilal, Hashim Kakar, Amir Farooq, and Ali Baqar Najafi. Justice Aminuddin Khan, heading the Constitutional Bench, read out the verdict.
