MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly on Monday unanimously approved a resolution to rename the New Islamabad International Airport after Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed, former Prime Minister of Pakistan.

The resolution was presented by the Minister for Social Welfare and Women Development, Syed Bazil Ali Naqvi, in recognition of Benazir Bhutto’s national and international services.

The resolution emphasised the need to name the airport after Benazir Bhutto Shaheed to acknowledge her invaluable services in the invincible defense of the country, protection of the nuclear program, supremacy of the constitution and law, stability of democracy, and acquisition of missile technology.

Participating in the discussion on the resolution, Minister for Wildlife and Fisheries Sardar Javed Ayub praised Benazir Bhutto as a history-making figure, acknowledging her services even among opponents. He also highlighted her role in advancing Pakistan’s missile technology.

Special Assistant on Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Nabila Ayub noted that Benazir Bhutto represented not only her party but also Asia, particularly Kashmiris, in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Speaker Chaudhry Latif Akbar directed that the resolution be sent to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, all provincial assemblies, the National Assembly, and the Senate.
