ISLAMABAD: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced that all commercial banks and financial institutions will remain closed for public dealings on Thursday, May 1, in observance of Labour Day.
A brief notification issued by SBP stated that May 1 has been notified as a public holiday by the government of Pakistan.
“The State Bank of Pakistan will remain closed on May 01, 2025 (Thursday), being a public holiday on the occasion of Labour Day, as declared by the Government of Pakistan,” the notification read.
Besides all banks, development finance institutions (DFIs) and microfinance banks (MFBs) will also remain closed for public dealings on the aforementioned date.
Meanwhile, the provincial governments have also declared a public holiday on May 1, which means educational institutions would also remain closed in observance of the holiday.
The world observes Labour Day, also known as International Workers’ Day, every year on May 1 to express solidarity with the labourers and honour the rights of the working class.
The day commemorates the historic fight for fair wages, reasonable working hours, and improved working conditions.
In Pakistan, the day is marked with rallies, seminars, and events organized by trade unions and workers’ associations, highlighting ongoing efforts to safeguard labor rights and promote social justice.
