BHOPAL, India (Kashmir English): In yet another horrific incident highlighting violence against women in Modi’s India, a woman was stripped naked, brutally assaulted and paraded through village streets in Madhya Pradesh state over a property dispute.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the incident occurred on June 30 in Arnia Vena village, falling under the jurisdiction of Jharda police station in Ujjain district.

Police said the woman had earlier been married to a resident of the village but later separated from him and married another man, with whom she was living in a rented house in Indore.

The dispute arose when she visited her second husband’s ancestral home to claim his share in the family’s agricultural land.

Police said several members of her husband’s family dragged her by the hair, mercilessly assaulted her, cut her hair, tore off her clothes, stripped her naked, forced a garland of shoes around her neck and paraded her through the village. Her husband was also beaten when he tried to intervene.

The woman sustained injuries to her eye, head, cheek and abdomen, while her husband suffered injuries to his face and chest.

Police have registered a case against 11 accused, including three women. Three suspects have been arrested, while efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining eight accused, who remain at large.
