ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): For the last couple of days, social media and news platforms have been buzzing with the announcement of a public holiday on September 23, 2025.
However, sadly, what they actually refer to is a public holiday announced by the Saudi government for the public of Saudi Arabia, not for Pakistan.
Some Pakistani media houses have been publishing such headlines as “Public holiday declared on 23 September, government issues notification”, which has led many to assume the holiday applies to Pakistan.
Sources investigated the allegation and found no mention of a holiday on 23 September in the government’s official list of holidays for 2025. The sole applicable date in the government’s list is 22 September, noted as the Equinox (a seasonal event), not a public holiday.
What is actually happening?
These are Saudi Arabia’s 95th National Day headlines, a significant celebration marking the country’s unification in 1932. Saudi Arabia celebrates this holiday on 23rd September annually, but the media did not make it clear that the holiday is specifically for Saudi Arabia.
