BAREILLY, India (Kashmir English): A severe storm in India’s state of Uttar Pradesh reportedly lifted a man into the air, with footage of the incident spreading rapidly across social media.
The incident occurred in the Bareilly district. The viral video features a man being carried upwards along with a tin shed during strong winds before falling back to the ground moments later, leaving onlookers surprised.
The injured man has been identified as Nanhe Mian, a labourer and resident of Bibiyana village in Bareilly.
However, Bareilly police later issued a statement, clarifying that the viral footage had been digitally edited to heighten the dramatic effect, although the incident itself did occur.
Forceful storm winds cause damage
According to Bareilly DSP Nitin Kumar, forceful storm winds ripped away a sheet of tin attached to Nanhe Mian’s home.
As he had been standing beside the shed’s support pillar at the time, the force of the wind pulled him upwards along with the structure.
Police said some individuals later edited the footage to make the incident appear more sensational, on social media.
Police said Nanhe Mian suffered an arm fracture along with minor injuries. He remains under treatment and is said to be out of danger.
Heavy rain and powerful winds have caused widespread destruction across Uttar Pradesh in recent days with official figures showing at least 89 people died and more than 50 others injured in various weather-related incidents.
