WASHINGTON, DC (Kashmir English): In a stark warning, Trump said any country trafficking drugs into the United States could be attacked; this is a signal that the United States is prepared to use force against countries complicit in the trade.
He repeated that any country trafficking drugs into the US could be attacked, giving an example of cocaine shipments from Colombia. Trump added that the United States would use force if necessary to stop the flow of illegal substances.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro shot back that his country destroys a drug-making laboratory every 40 minutes “without missiles,” adding that Washington should not threaten Colombia’s sovereignty.
Petro, who is still under U.S. sanctions, invited Trump to join the anti-narcotic operations of Colombia but made it very clear: “Do not threaten our sovereignty, or you will awaken the Jaguar. Attacking our sovereignty is declaring war.”
The U.S. has recently stepped up strikes on suspected drug-trafficking boats in the Caribbean and Pacific, killing several people in targeted operations.
U.S. forces have also increased their presence near Venezuela, ratcheting up tension with President Nicolas Maduro, whom Washington accuses of aiding drug smuggling, an accusation he denies.
