WASHINGTON (Kashmir English): The United States has approved the sale of an advanced technology upgrade of Pakistan’s F-16 fighter jets, valued at $686 million.
According to the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) letter sent to Congress on December 8, through the package, Pakistan’s F-16 jets will receive data link and avionics upgrades, cryptographic equipment, training, and comprehensive logistical support.
This package also includes specialized tools, spare parts, and other systems.
The DSCA letter makes clear the rationale for the sale, stating that it “will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by allowing Pakistan to retain interoperability with US and partner forces in ongoing counterterrorism efforts and in preparation for future contingency operations.”
The modern upgrade will extend the life of Pakistan’s F-16 fleet until 2040, and this package will improve joint operations and training between the US and Pakistan.
The total value of the US package is about $ 686 million, and this decision aims to support joint security and counter-terrorism efforts. The Foreign Office has welcomed the US decision to assist with the upgrade of F-16s.
