MIRPUR (Kashmir English): The two-day Urs of Baba Peera Shah Ghazi, also known as Damri Wali Sarkar, begins today on February 12 at his shrine in Khari Sharif, Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), where thousands of devotees from all across Pakistan and AJK will gather for religious rituals, prayers, and tributes, with authorities ensuring security and facilities.
The revered spiritual leader’s urs is being noted with great religious reverence and respect by the State Auqaf Department. In AJK religious issues are under the purview of the Auqaf Department. It is also responsible for looking after and maintaining shrines and mosques, waqf properties, or properties set aside for religious use.
The last day’s observances have been honoured with a local holiday in Mirpur on February 13 by the district administration to make for devotees who may need accommodations. The Urs, including the formal washing of the shrine, floral offerings, and particular prayers for the integrity, success, and prosperity of Pakistan, as well as the success of the Kashmir freedom movement, will see thousands of followers from all over AJK and Pakistan.
Baba Peera Shah Ghazi’s great contribution to the propagation of Islam in the subcontinent will be acknowledged by well-known religious scholars, naat-khawans, and ulema. Also on the agenda of the festivities are sufi poetry and addresses from renowned academics and poets.

Considering the importance of the urs at the religious and cultural levels, the local administration has declared February 13 a public holiday in Mirpur so that more people can participate in the event.
