University of Poonch Hosts 5-Day Bio-Risk Management Training Workshop

RAWALAKOT (Kashmir English): The 5-day basic bio-risk management training workshop continued at a local hotel for the second day on Wednesday.

The event is being hosted by the University of Poonch Rawalakot. The workshop is being organized by the Association for Bio-Risk Management (ABRM) and Health Security Partners in collaboration with the University of Poonch Rawalakot.

The training began earlier in the week with an inaugural session addressed by Professor Dr. Imtiaz Hussain, Registrar, University of Poonch, who highlighted the relevance of professional capacity building in Biosafety and Biosecurity.

He emphasized that such initiatives are vital for improving national preparedness and promoting responsible scientific and laboratory practices.

The workshop is being conducted under the supervision of Dr. Shahzad Akbar Khan (Pride of Performance), Chairman Department of Pathobiology, who is serving as the principal organizer of the program.

On Wednesday, Dr. Javed Khan, BRM Program Director and Chairman ABRM, delivered a detailed session and explained the objectives and national importance of Bio-Risk Management initiatives.

He underscored the need for developing secure and responsible research environments in Pakistan’s scientific institutions.

Dr. Javed Khan praised the professionalism, discipline and willingness to learn shown by the participants and reaffirmed ABRM’s continued support in strengthening this collaboration with the University of Poonch Rawalakot. He assured that such initiatives will be expanded in the future.

A total of 21 participants — all from the University of Poonch Rawalakot — are taking part in the workshop.

The training covers a wide range of practical and theoretical areas including Bio-Risk Assessment and Mitigation, Cyber Biosecurity, Personal Protective Equipment, incident management, good laboratory practices and biological waste management. The training will continue until November 28.
