BAJAUR (Kashmir English): Three people, including two children, were martyred due to shelling by Afghan Taliban in the border area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur district, security sources said on Wednesday.

The unprovoked shelling from Indian-backed Taliban forces against civilians in Malik Shaheen village of Katkot also left three others seriously injured, they added.

The deceased belonged to the same family, sources said, adding that the three injured were shifted to the hospital.

Security sources added that the Afghan Taliban had been trying to infiltrate a formation of Fitna al-Khawarij into Pakistan for a few days, which was foiled due to the timely action of the Pakistan Army.

Disappointed by this failure, the Afghan Taliban targeted the Pakistani civilian population in Katkot today, it said.

Retaliation for unprovoked shelling

In an immediate retaliatory action, the Pakistan Army destroyed the gun position firing from Afghanistan.

The Army targeted all Afghan Taliban posts adjacent to Bajaur with heavy casualties on the Afghan side, sources said.

Residents of Bajaur have strongly condemned this cowardly act and expressed complete solidarity with the security forces.

“Security forces are always vigilant and determined to protect the lives and property of the people and establish lasting peace in the region,” it said.

“Targeting the civilian population by the Afghan Taliban is clear evidence of their nefarious intentions and desperation.”
