WASHINGTON (Kashmir English): US President Donald Trump has said he is ready to hold direct talks with Iran, while accusing Tehran of being responsible for an incident involving an Emirati aircraft.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said he was always prepared for direct negotiations with Iran despite the tensions between the two countries.

Trump also commented on the withdrawal of US bombers from the UK’s RAF Fairford airbase, saying the aircraft had been recalled because of a specific threat.

Meanwhile, the US president attributed rising fuel prices to factors other than a potential war with Iran. In a post on Truth Social, Trump blamed the Russia-Ukraine war and his political opponents for the increase in fuel prices.

He said the Strait of Hormuz was no longer the main factor affecting petrol prices, pointing instead to disruptions involving refineries, including Russian refineries targeted by Ukraine and refinery closures in Democratic-led US states such as California.
