ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The National Highway Authority (NHA), functioning under the Ministry of Communications, has issued a notification announcing toll tax revisions for all major highways and motorways in Pakistan.
The notification states that the toll tax revisions will become effective from April 5, 2026, as per the provisions of the NHA Act, 1991, as amended in 2024.
According to the notification, toll rates for all vehicle categories have been increased. On National Highways, cars will now be charged Rs. 100, wagons Rs. 200, and buses Rs. 300.
The toll rate for 2 and 3-axle trucks will be Rs. 350, and for articulated trucks, it will be Rs. 700. The toll rates for specific routes, such as Kohat Tunnel (N-55) and Islamabad-Muzaffarabad Motorway (E-75), are relatively higher than those for normal highways.
Motorways Toll Tax
Moreover, the new toll rates will also include significant hikes in the toll rates of the major motorways. The M-1 Islamabad-Peshawar motorway will have a new toll rate of Rs. 700 for cars. Similarly, the M-3 Lahore-Abdul Hakeem motorway will have a new toll rate of Rs. 1000 for cars.
The M-4 Pindi Bhattian-Faisalabad-Multan motorway will have Rs. 1300 as the new toll rate for cars. The M-5 Multan-Sukkur motorway will have Rs. 1500 as the new toll rate for cars. Other motorways such as the M-14 D.I Khan-Hakla motorway and the E-35 Hassanabdal-Havelian-Mansehra Expressway, will be included in the new system, with the new rates being applied to all vehicles.
The rise in toll rates is likely to affect the daily commute of the public as well as the transportation sector. However, the officials at the NHA claim that the rise in toll rates is necessary in order to meet the expenses of maintaining the road infrastructure in the country.
The authority has advised the public to check the new rates and plan their commute accordingly.
