MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): A one-day comprehensive awareness workshop on civil defence was organized by the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) in collaboration with the District Office Civil Defence here at the TEVTA Complex.
The objective of the workshop was to enhance awareness among officers and staff regarding safety measures and preparedness to deal with potential hazards.
Secretary/Chief Operating Officer TEVTA, Dr. Masood Ahmed Bukhari, Director Admin & Finance Raja Muhammad Aftab Khan, along with officers and staff of TEVTA and the Trade Testing Board, attended the workshop in large numbers.
During the awareness session, detailed briefings were delivered on fire hazards, chemical hazards, radiological risks, initial safety measures, emergency response mechanisms and overall safety protocols.
In addition, the safety guidelines of the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA) and internationally-recognized nuclear safety frameworks were also discussed.
Guest speakers Muhammad Abid Aslam (Head RNSI-C), Muhammad Rizwan (Senior Scientific Officer) and Syed Naveed Bukhari (Assistant Director, Civil Defence Department) briefed the participants on practical aspects of civil defence, timely response during emergencies, public safety measures and institutional-level safety planning. The speakers guided the participants through various examples and case studies.
To ensure active participation, a detailed interactive question-and-answer session was also conducted, during which officers and staff raised questions related to fire safety, chemical and other hazards, use of safety equipment and emergency handling procedures, and received expert guidance.
Civil defence workshops
At the conclusion of the workshop, it was agreed that the scope of such training activities would be further expanded, and in the next phase, officers and staff of AJK TEVTA institutions and training centres in other districts would also benefit from similar training programs.
