Telecom users in Pakistan cross 200 million: PTA

ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has released its annual report for the fiscal year 2024-25, where the number of telecom users in Pakistan has crossed 200 million.

The PTA report states that the number of broadband connections in the country has crossed 150 million.

The total revenue of the telecom sector has been recorded at more than one trillion rupees.

The share of the telecom sector in the national exchequer has reached 402 billion rupees.

According to the report, the volume of investment in the telecom sector has reached 838 million US dollars, while the revenue has increased by 12 percent compared to the previous year.

PTA says that there has been a significant growth of 9 percent in telecom investment.

Telecom coverage has been provided to 92 percent of the country’s area, and broadband penetration has crossed 60 percent.

95% of cellular networks in Pakistan have migrated to 4G technology, while 4 new submarine cables are being added to improve regional and global connectivity.

According to the PTA report, there has been a record increase in internet data usage, which has reached 27,727 petabytes.

In addition, 95% of mobile phones in the country have started being manufactured locally, of which 68% are smartphones.

The report also stated that Pakistan’s position in the global cybersecurity ranking has further improved, while consumer protection measures have resulted in a 13% reduction in complaints.

The PTA has also reiterated its commitment to the launch of 5G technology and the promotion of the digital economy.
