ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has barred telecom companies operating in the country from increasing the prices of mobile packages on a monthly basis.

According to PTA officials, telecom operators have been formally informed that they could now increase prices of mobile packages only on a quarterly basis under the Mobile Tariff Regulations 2025.

They said previously telecom companies used to raise package prices every month. Under the new arrangement, companies will be allowed to increase prices after their previous year’s rates are reviewed.

Permitted increase in mobile packages

Telecom operators may increase package prices by 10% to 20% compared with the previous year. The decision was taken after consumers approached PTA with complaints regarding frequent increases in package prices. In response, the regulator decided to implement the Mobile Tariff Regulations 2025.

PTA said the measure has been introduced to ensure a more organised and balanced tariff system. It further said, telecom companies are now required to obtain prior approval from the regulator before launching new packages.

They must also seek PTA approval before increasing the prices of existing packages.

In Pakistan, all mobile phone companies offer a variety of daily, weekly, and monthly packages. But now the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has implemented new regulations, requiring operators to only revise their tariffs on a quarterly basis and obtain prior approval for new packages.
