PARIS (Kashmir English): The Pakistani community in Paris gathered on Wednesday to remember veteran Kashmiri leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on his death anniversary and pay tribute to his decades-long struggle for the Kashmir cause.

The event was organised by the International Kashmir Peace Forum France (IKPF) and attended by community members and human rights activists. Speakers recalled Geelani’s political struggle, sacrifices and his demand for the right to self-determination for the people of Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Geelani Remembered for Kashmir Struggle

IKPF President Zahid Hashmi said Geelani’s services and sacrifices would continue to be remembered. He called for greater international attention to the Kashmir dispute and the rights of the Kashmiri people.

Participants said Geelani remained a strong voice for the Kashmir cause despite political restrictions and repression. They also pledged to continue highlighting the Kashmir issue and the human rights situation in IIOJK at international forums.

Syed Ali Shah Geelani died on September 1, 2021, at his residence in Hyderpora, Srinagar, while under house arrest. The gathering concluded with prayers for his departed soul and for peace and justice in IIOJ&K.
