MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): A petition has been filed in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Supreme Court on Wednesday regarding the AJK High Court’s decision to suspend the Ad Hoc Act 2026 aimed at regularising the services of ad hoc, temporary, and contractual employees.
Last month, the AJK Legislative Assembly unanimously approved two bills to regularise over 4000 temporary, ad hoc, and contract employees, mostly of grades 1 to 15, posted in various public-sector departments across AJK.
The apex court will take up petitions filed in the cases of Raja Athar Ali Khan vs. Khizar Saleem and others and Noman Tariq and others vs. Khizar Saleem and others. The court is likely to hear the case on Thursday, July 23.
On July 14, the High Court suspended the Act that made thousands of temporary, ad hoc and contract employees permanent.
Following the High Court’s interim order, the proceedings under the said Act were suspended till the next court hearing on August 3.
According to sources, the matter has been referred to the Chief Justice of the AJK High Court to form an appropriate Division Bench or Larger Bench to hear this important case.
Proceedings related to the formation of the bench and the future of this important legislation are expected to be discussed in the next hearing.
