LAHORE (Kashmir English): Following a tragedy where a nine-year-old girl lost her life at the Sozo Water Park in Lahore, the management of the water park has been forced to temporarily close down operations.
The child is said to have drowned after being sucked into an open drainage pipe while swimming, after the management reportedly started draining the pool when not all the visitors were out of the pool yet. Her untimely demise has led to allegations of negligence by the park administration.
Three staff members of the water park have been taken into custody, including the manager, the CCTV in-charge, and the security in-charge. They have been booked for their involvement in the case and are under investigation at the Batapur Police Station based on a complaint by the girl’s mother.
The victim is said to be Rahmeen Fatima, who is from Dubai and had come to Pakistan along with her family. It is further reported that she is the only daughter of her parents. This information is unverified till now.
The tragic incident has sparked widespread public anger about the need for greater enforcement of safety regulations in places used for recreation. The authorities have sealed off the water park pending an inquiry into whether any safety rules were broken.
