ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The prices of solar panels and other related equipment have skyrocketed across the country amid fears of higher taxes in the upcoming budget for the fiscal year 2026-27.
According to the details, solar panel prices have risen by up to Rs 4,000, while inverter and lithium battery prices have jumped by as much as Rs 20,000 even before the tax is imposed.
Dealers are reportedly holding back inventory as they wait for clarity on possible sales tax changes, creating supply shortages and pushing prices higher across the market.
Solar market dealers say that a 10 percent tax is already imposed on the import of panels.
After the hike, 585, 645, and 720-watt panels are being sold in the market at a high price of Rs 26,000 to Rs 32,000.
The prices of inverters ranging from 1 kW to 3 kW used for small house solar systems have been increased by Rs 5000 to 10000.
On the other hand, as the demand for lithium batteries increased due to heat and load shedding, dealers also increased their prices by Rs20000.
Currently, the price of a 5 kW lithium battery in the market has reached the level of Rs 260k, which has further increased the financial burden on the middle class, shifting towards alternative energy.
