QUETTA (Kashmir English): A major drug smuggling attempt was foiled in Balochistan late Friday night after security forces intercepted a vehicle carrying a large quantity of narcotics.
According to official sources, the operation was carried out near Basatang Post along a route leading toward the Zamuran Range.
During the operation, a fire exchange took place between the forces and the smugglers. One suspected trafficker, identified as Muhammad Adil, a resident of Kalag, was killed in the encounter, while others managed to escape.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the consignment was headed to local handlers in the Zamuran region. Authorities believe the drug network was being coordinated from across the border, with the key people operating from Shamesar, Iran.
Recoveries
Security personnel recovered about 400 kilograms of opium, a white double-cabin vehicle, and a submachine gun during the operation.
Further search and follow-up operations are in progress to trace the remaining members of the network and dismantle the trafficking route.
