SDMA issues advisory amid heavy rainfall across AJK

MUZAFARRABAD (Kashmir English): The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has issued an advisory alert for rain in various regions of Azad Jammu and Kashmir for the coming 12 to 24 hours.

Neelum Valley, Bagh, Haveli, Rawalakot, Muzaffarabad, Bhimber, and surrounding areas could see heavy rainfall, which might result in flash flooding, landslides, and road network disruption. Urban flooding in low-lying areas was also indicated by the SDMA.

Possible Impacts Highlighted by SDMA:

  • Flash floods and urban flooding in susceptible areas.
  • Landslide risk in mountainous and hilly areas.
  • Road connectivity is disrupted due to landslides and flooding.
  • Potential destruction of crops and poor infrastructure.

Precautionary Public Measures

  • Avoid rivers, nullahs, and unsafe slopes.
  • Avoid unnecessary road travel, especially to hilly regions.
  • Farmers are requested to use protective measures for crops and animals.
  • Citizens are asked to adhere to safety guidelines issued by local authorities.

SDMA has also given emergency contact numbers to the general public to avail assistance in times of trouble. The public can call the SDMA Control Room at 05822-921643 or call the 1122 Rescue Service for urgent assistance.

The authority has asked the residents to stay vigilant, follow safety measures, and be cooperative with the local administration to reduce risks during these days of heavy rain.
