MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir Digital): The Government Boys High School in Duchoor Miran, Muzaffarabad, remains incomplete 17 years after reconstruction work began, leaving students exposed to harsh weather and unsafe learning conditions.

The campus building was destroyed during the devastating 2005 earthquake. Reconstruction officially started in 2008, but the project has since faced repeated delays, with no significant progress in recent years.

As a result, dozens of students are still forced to attend classes sitting under the open sky and amid piles of stones.

With freezing winter conditions worsening, studying without a roof has become nearly impossible. Rain and cold winds frequently disrupt classes, severely affecting academic continuity.

The school headmaster said the construction work was halted multiple times, and no relevant department has taken meaningful action to complete the long-delayed project.

Students also voiced frustration, saying that appeals made several times to authorities went unheard.

Former head teacher and retired Director of Education expressed deep regret over the situation, calling it an “injustice to the future of the children.” They demanded that the incomplete building be finished on an emergency basis.

Residents and parents also expressed concern, stating that the academic future of their children continues to suffer due to the delay in completing the only high school in the area. They urged the government to ensure the swift completion of the project and provide students with a safe and conducive educational environment.
