MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Azad Kashmir government has declared a holiday in schools and colleges across Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Tuesday (tomorrow) amid harsh weather conditions.

Secretary Elementary & Secondary Education Department Inayat Ali Qazi announced that all educational institutions in Azad Kashmir will remain closed tomorrow (March 04).

Earlier this announcement, Divisional Director Schools Poonch announced the closure of all government and private educational institutions (male/female) within the jurisdiction of Poonch Division on Tuesday due to the severity of the weather conditions in all the districts of the region.

The decision was taken on the recommendation of the District Education Officers Poonch, Bagh, Haveli, and Sudhanoti.

The weather conditions worsened on Monday after the heavy snowfall blocked roads in major cities of Azad Kashmir. Heavy snowfall in the Jagran area of the Neelum Valley has brought down glaciers which have destroyed more than a dozen houses in Misra village.

On the other hand, Commissioner Haveli Raja Sadaqat Khan also issued a warning and said that the Lasdana road Haveli has been closed due to heavy snowfall. More snowfall is likely at night, prompting no travel advisory for tourists and the general public on this route.

The authorities in Rawalakot have also advised transporters and tourists to not travel on this road during Khai Gala-Toli Pir Road as it was closed due to snowfall. Snowfall in upper areas including Rawalakot city has also brought life to a standstill.
