MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Election Commission has released the schedule to elect members for eight reserved seats in the AJK Legislative Assembly.
Polling will take place on August 24 at the Assembly Hall here, setting the stage for the election of a new Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and Prime Minister by the end of August.

According to the Election Commission, the eight reserved seats include five for women, one for Ulema-o-Mashaikh (religious scholars), one for overseas Jammu and Kashmir state subjects, and one for technocrats and professionals.
According to the schedule, submission of nomination papers, scrutiny, and publication of candidate lists will be completed by August 20.
Appeals against nomination papers could be filed on August 21 while the same would be heard and decided on August 22.
On August 23, candidates could withdraw their nominations and the same day final list would be published.
Polling would be held on August 24 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at Assembly Hall Block 12, Civil Secretariat, Muzaffarabad.
Following the conclusion of the reserved seat elections on August 24, vote for the new Speaker and Deputy Speaker is expected on August 25.
This will be followed by the election of the new Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir on August 27, leading up to the subsequent swearing-in ceremony.
