RIYADH (Kashmir English): Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development said there will be a four-day public holiday around Eid al-Azha for people in the private sector as well as in non-profit institutions.
According to the Saudi state media, the holiday is planned to start on 9 Dhul Hijjah 1447 AH, which matches May 26, 2026. The ministry also explained that the time off will be handled based on Article 24 of the Labour Law, so it stays in line with the rules and guidance already approved for official holidays inside the Kingdom.
This announcement arrives together with a rundown of major Hajj dates. It is expected that the first day of Dhul Hijjah will land on Monday, May 18, 2026. Then the Day of Arafah, which is the standout religious event of Hajj, is set for Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
After that, Eid al-Adha will be marked on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. Overall, this move makes private sector holiday planning match the yearly Hajj rhythm, giving workers in non-government roles more consistent days off during one of the most important faith seasons in the Islamic calendar.
Eid-ul-Azha Holidays in Pakistan
According to early projections, the Eid ul-Azha holiday is expected to take place between May 27 and May 29, which is the period from Wednesday to Friday if the moon is sighted on May 17.
However, the celebration will probably take place between May 28 and May 30, which falls on Thursday to Saturday if the Islamic month reaches its full 30-day duration.
The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee must confirm these dates before they become official. The holiday window could expand further if the weekend aligns with the Eid holidays.
If Saturday and Sunday (May 30 and 31) are included, many people may enjoy a continuous five-day break. If holidays start one day before the regular schedule, people will receive six days off, which allows them to return home and spend time with their families.
Eid-ul-Azha, one of the most important Islamic festivals in Pakistan, is marked by special prayers, sacrifice, and gatherings. The official public holiday schedule will be announced according to the lunar calendar.
The expected extended break is especially welcome for those working in different cities, giving them a rare opportunity to travel home and spend more time with loved ones during the festive period.
Eid-ul-Azha is an important religious festival
It should be noted that Eid al-Adha is an important religious festival for Muslims, in which sacrifices are offered in remembrance of the Sunnah of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS), and on this occasion, Muslims around the world celebrate this day with religious fervour.
Experts say that citizens should wait for the official announcement for the final date, as a one-day difference due to moon sighting is not unusual.
