DUBAID (Kashmir English): The International Cricket Council (ICC) has appointed Sanjog Gupta as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). He officially took charge on July 7, 2025, becoming the seventh CEO in ICC’s history.
Sanjog Gupta previously served as the CEO of Sports & Live Experiences at JioStar, where he played a major role in sports broadcasting and commercial growth. His experience in media rights, marketing, and fan engagement made him a strong candidate for the top ICC role.
According to ICC Chairman Jay Shah, Gupta’s leadership will be key to growing the global reach of cricket. One of his top priorities will be pushing cricket’s inclusion in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, alongside improving global fan experiences and promoting the game in new markets.
Sanjog Gupta was selected through a competitive process, with over 2,500 applicants from 25 countries considered for the role. The ICC Nominations Committee unanimously recommended his name, and the ICC Board gave full approval.
His appointment is seen as part of India’s growing influence in global cricket. Gupta has close links to JioStar, which owns ICC’s global media rights, and to the Indian Premier League (IPL). This continues the trend of Indian leadership at the ICC, especially after Jay Shah’s recent appointment as Chairman.
As the new ICC CEO, Sanjog Gupta faces several major challenges. These include balancing the international calendar with the rise of domestic T20 leagues, managing high-profile broadcasting deals, and strengthening the World Test Championship. He is also expected to focus on promoting women’s cricket and ensuring smooth preparations for cricket’s Olympic debut.
Cricket analysts believe Sanjog Gupta brings the right mix of commercial strategy and innovation needed to guide the sport through its next phase of growth.
